After undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2021, Los Angeles Angels left-hander Reid Detmers made his long-awaited return to the starting rotation on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs.
Detmers, who was the Angels' first-round pick in the 2020 MLB draft, pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five batters.

After the game, Detmers said he felt "strong" and "healthy" in his return to the mound.
"I felt like I was able to locate my fastball well and change speeds effectively," Detmers said. "Overall, I'm happy with where I'm at right now and I'm looking forward to continuing to build on this."
