Munich Police Shoot Dead Suspect Who Opened Fire on Officers

Munich police have shot dead a suspect who opened fire on officers near the Israeli consulate, officials said Wednesday.

There were no reports of any injuries to officers or bystanders.

The incident took place at around 2:30 p.m. local time in the Maxvorstadt district of Munich, near the Israeli consulate and the city's main train station.

According to police, the suspect, a 21-year-old German citizen, approached two officers who were patrolling the area and opened fire with a handgun.

The officers returned fire, hitting the suspect multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not yet released any information about the suspect's motive for the attack.

The Israeli consulate in Munich was closed following the shooting, and the area was cordoned off by police.

The German government has condemned the attack and expressed its solidarity with Israel.

The incident is being investigated by the Munich police and the Bavarian State Office for Criminal Investigation.
